Children and Technology

Since my project is designed to be screen based and I am looking at aiming my work towards a child audience I thought that it would be a good idea to do some research into how this works. Learning more about current views, the pros and cons, and methods of communication through these screen based technologies and a younger audience.

This link argues that picture books could possibly be immune to digitalisation due to interactivity and high costs for consumers. However it does voice an opinion that this is where the world seems to be heading and that both writers and illustrators are beginning to change some of the ways they work to cater to a new digital audience.

The following examples are video links I came across on youtube while doing my research of moving/animated children's picture books. Its given me a small insight into what is out there for the general public at the moment. Most of the examples are narrated and all of them include sound of some kind, wether it's through voice or music:

These are examples of a companies that create books that a child can access through the latest gadgets such as the Iphone and iPad. Both of the websites cover a variety of positive points for digital picture books.

Through my research i've realised that despite some opposition and initial fear there is a growing market appearing for digital picture books and animated picture books for children.
